Travel is as close to me as is photography, in the diary of a traveller there is always a list of places to visit, so is in mine and the list keeps on updating with time. From a long time I had a strong desire to travel around the Northern part of Kashmir. After travelling to Gurez in August 2013, my next stop was Lolab valley or Waadi-e-Lolab as known locally, some describe it as Land Of Love And Beauty. After trying very hard in convincing my friends I succeeded to get two of them with me ; Zahoor and Suhail, they were really calm and patient during the whole trip especially when I asked them to stop every 5 minutes to take a shot, I made them to wait a lot while taking pictures.
Starting from our hometown Pampore, we reached the district headquarters Kupwara in about 3 hours, from Kupwara we headed towards Lolab valley after crossing the Zangli Garrison. On day one we travelled to Khumriyal, Diver, Lolipora and finally stopped at Chandigam for the night. The next day we travelled to Sogam, Vernav, Himil, and Satbern, Kalaroos before finally heading towards home.Kalaroos is famous for its ancient caves which are believed by the locals to be connected to Russia.
Lolab valley is one of the beautiful and untouched places in Kashmir known for its raw and sheer natural features like valleys, meadows, rice fields, and springs. Agriculture and cattle rearing is the main activity of the people of this area. The people are gentle and simple and the hospitality is quite amazing, while passing through the villages, people would often greet and offer you tea and food.
Since it was the month of August, there were rice fields everywhere surrounded by mountains forming a picturesque view, small streams would often intersect the fields but they mostly run dry during this season because of the scarcity of rainfall. To overcome the scarcity of water, every village has a common pond for storing and harvesting rainwater for use during the dry seasons. Lolab valley is having a dense forest cover of Pine and Fir trees adding to its beauty.
